ROXAS City – Capiz will hold its own “simple yet meaningful” celebration of the 117th Philippine Independence Day.

The national celebration to be led by President Benigno Aquino III and followed by the traditional vin d’honneur will be in Iloilo.

Preparations for the Capiz celebration are under way, according to Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Officer Alphonsus Tesoro.

Tesoro said the event aims to deepen the Capisnons’ appreciation of a life committed to the Filipinos’ independence.

It will kick off with a 6 a.m. city-wide motorcade. “A program will follow in front of the provincial capitol,” he said.
Hundreds of students, government and private sector employees, and war veterans are expected to attend.

Other activities include the flag-raising ceremony at 8 a.m., wreath-laying at the Rizal monument, dance and song performances, and keynote speeches.

A community singing in commemoration of the country’s freedom from its colonizers will be highlighted by the releasing of 117 doves, said Tesoro.

A forum on the deeper meaning of Philippine Independence will be held for students under the provincial government’s Viable and Innovative College scholarship program.

Tesoro’s office also plans to hold a forum on the Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines. Police and military personnel, media, students, government employees, and other stakeholders are expected to join.

This year’s Independence Day celebration has the theme, “Kalayaan 2015: Tagumpay sa Pagbabagong Nasimulan, Abot Kamay na ng Bayan.” (PIA/PN)
