ROXAS City – Dengue cases in Capiz have decreased by 48 percent, according to the Capiz Epidemiological Surveillance Response Unit (CESRU).
From 470 cases during the period January 1 to June 13 last year, the cases dropped to only 243 in the same period this year, CESRU data showed.
No dengue-related deaths were recorded during the period.
The capital city of Roxas had the most number of dengue cases with 98.
Mambusao followed with 21; Dao, 19; Panay, 18; Jamindan, 13; Dumarao, 11; Dumalag and Ivisan, nine each; Sigma, seven; President Roxas and Tapaz, five each; Cuartero, Pilar, Pontevedra, and Sapian, four each; Panitan, three; and Maayon, two.
Of the dengue patients, 143 were males and 100 were females. Four people from Aklan and three people from Iloilo got hospitalized in Capiz for dengue, too.
Among the patients, 126 were below 10 years old, 64 were below 20 years old, 24 were below 30 years old, 12 were below 40 years old, eight were below 1 year old, five were below 50 years old, and four were above 50 years old.
To prevent the spread of dengue, the Provincial Health Office advised the public to do the following:
- Don’t gather things that could contain stagnant water: cans, bottles, wheels, and tanzans, among others.
- Clean things containing water once a week and cover them to prevent mosquitoes from laying eggs therein.
- Use mosquito nets and put screens on windows and doors.
- Wear long pants or pajamas and long-sleeved shirts to avoid mosquito bites.
- Say no to fogging; and
- Consult the doctor when experiencing fever for two straight days. RALPH JOHN MIJARES/PN
