SAPIAN, Capiz — Two government officials and the Interior and Local Government department are financially backing up public works in this town.

Department of Transportation and Communication Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas II has given this city P4 million to be used for the rehabilitation of this municipality’s wet market.

The amount was part of Roxas’ Priority Development Assistance Fund when he was still a senator.

It was not released earlier by former President and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo for “political reasons.”

Mayor Arturo Orosco Sr. on Tuesday thanked Roxas for the fund.

The amount is enough to finance the necessary reconstruction work in the town’s wet market, particularly the vegetable section, Orosco said.

The provincial government under Gov. Victor Tanco Sr. also gave this town P1 million.
According to Orosco, the amount will be used to “face-lift” the municipal hall.
Tanco also gave the town a tractor which could be used by farmers, he said.

At the same time, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) gave Sapian a P10.3-million subsidy for the construction of a water system here.

The DILG earlier recognized Sapian as one of the recipients of the Seal of Good Housekeeping under the Fourth- to Sixth-class Municipality category.

The administrative assistant of Orosco, Arns Caberte, said Sapian plans to get its water supply from the Metro Roxas Water District.

Caberte said the P10.3 million from the DILG will be used for the Phase 1 of the project. (Felipe Celino/Panay News)
