ROXAS CITY, Capiz, April 18 (PIA) -- Another Peer Educators’ Training (PET) will be conducted to teach participants on needed skills in extending services at the various school-based teen centers on April 26 to 30.
Gennie L. Mariano, administrative operations in-charge of Provincial Population Office (PPO) – Capiz, said that training participants will come from public secondary schools province-wide.
“A screening process was conducted last March 20 for the selection of participants to the forthcoming PET,” she said.
The training has been instituted by the PPO – Capiz under the stewardship of OIC-Provincial Population Officer Yolanda E. Francisco, Mariano stressed.
After the training, the participants will help Teen Center coordinators in managing the adolescent-friendly centers established in 52 public high schools since 2003.
The lead trainer for the activity will be Commission on Population (PopCom) – Regional Population Office – 6 Adolescent Health Youth Development Program coordinator Angelita Tanong-tanong.
Capiz Gov. Victor A. Tanco, Sr. is also expected to grace the opening day of the training.
The school-based teen center was conceptualized in Capiz during the United Nations Fund for Population Activities’ Reproductive Health (RH) implementation to improve awareness and knowledge of adolescents on Reproductive Health (RH) issues and concerns and help curb teenage pregnancies, substance abuse and negative peer influence.
Each teen center is equipped with a personal computer, audio-video equipments, gameboards, musical instruments, and IEC materials on ARH, HIV/AIDS, sexuality and related learning resource materials.
Its services include counseling, focused-group discussion, indoor activities like board games, musical instrument playing and video presentation on topics related to ARH, HIV/AIDS and prohibited drugs. (JSC/AAL-PIA6 Capiz)
