DYVR RMN Roxas presents its Baroto Race (Year 2) as Capiz observes its CAPIZtahan on April 13-15, 2012.
The activity is held to showcase the beauty of Capiz’s coastal municipalities and give tribute to the local fisher folks for the province’s and city’s booming seafood industry.
On April 15, which is the 111th Charter Anniversary of Capiz and the 64th death anniversary of late President Manuel Acuña-Roxas, DYVR RMN stages for the second time one of the most exciting parts of the celebration: The DYVR RMN Roxas Baroto Race Year 2.
The event will surely captivate everyone’s heart and raise their adrenaline level.
The activity highlights the use of bancas uniquely designed and painted with the tourism assets or sites of every participating municipality. This year, six municipalities are fielding entries to the race – Panay, Pontevedra, President Roxas, Pilar, Ivisan and Sapian, including Roxas City.
Twenty-five teams each composed of two rowers will race through the Panay River starting at the back portion of the Roxas City bandstand going to San Roque Extension Bridge.
Aside from the prize for the top paddlers, a special award for the “Most Tourist Attractive Banca” awaits the participants.
Started with a great success last year with thousands of spectators turning out for the activity, the DYVR RMN Roxas Baroto Race has become a must-see event of the CAPIZtahan. For this year, a grander and colorful activity awaits everyone. (Publicity and Promotions Committee, Capiztahan 2012)
