CAPIZtahan 2012

The 111th foundation day of the civil government of Capiz will be marked with the staging of the CAPIZtahan 2012 Festival, which boasts of an array of activities during the April 13,14 and 15,2012 celebration. Also included in the three-day event are the inauguration and blessing of several infrastructure projects, seen to largely benefit Capiz folks and stimulate the City’s and Province’s economy.

Like any other fiesta, a cock derby expected to bring together the country’s top cockfight aficionados, is slated at the Capiz Gymnasium on April 13-15, 2012.

CAPIZtahan 2012 also remembers the 64th death anniversary of the late President Manuel Roxas, the last President of the commonwealth and the first President of the new  republic. There will be a wreath-laying at his monument at the Roxas City plaza in the morning of April 15, 2012.

The relevance of Roxas today, especially for the Filipino youth, was how he conducted himself throughout his life – how he spent it so widely, how he lived it so productively and how he shared it so prolifically.

CAPIZtahan is a spectacular display of activities that speak of Capiz’s rich cultural and historical heritage, showcase the talents of its locals and highlight the achievements and accomplishments of its leaders. It is hosted by the Provincial Government of Capiz, the City Government of Roxas, the Capiz First District Congressional Office and the ONE Capiz Foundation, Inc.

The grand celebration particularly features the unique Parade of Lights, which are in the form of electric floats depicting different marine creatures and flowers. There will also be cultural extravaganza and seafood offerings, as part of the effort of both the private and public sector to establish Roxas City and Capiz as the “Seafood Trip” and one of the premier tourist destinations in the country. An elaborate traffic plan has been mapped out by the local police to avoid last year’s “traffic mess” that stranded thousands of spectators wanting to see the Parade of Lights.

ONE Capiz, through the CAPIZtahan 2012 and its planned endeavors and projects, aims to encourage Capizeños to “move as one” and uplift the pride, morale and identity of the Capizeño.(Publicity and Promotions Committee, CAPIZtahan 2012)
