Foreigners may possibly apply the province’s initiatives after super typhoon “Yolanda” when a similar disaster hit their areas, according to the governor.
“I was recently interviewed for a video documentary presentation in Japan about our preparations for and responses [after] ‘Yolanda,’” he told reporters.
“Yolanda” (international name: Haiyan) was one of the strongest tropical cyclones ever recorded. It hit Visayas on Nov. 8, 2013.
Tanco jokingly said more people from other places know him now due to his interviews with national and international news reporters in the aftermath of the super typhoon.
He stressed that the provincial government had “well-coordinated efforts” before, during and after “Yolanda.”
They resulted in minimal damage and threats, particularly on human life, and sped up search and recovery and relief efforts, he claimed.
Tanco said the province also organized reconstruction and rehabilitation works with the help of the national government and various international humanitarian groups.
Arshad Rashid, head of the International Organization for Migration’s (IOM) sub-office here, affirmed this.
Rashid said coordination helped a lot in the immediate delivery of relief items and other forms of IOM assistance for the survivors. (PIA/PN)
