ROXAS City — The Barangay Service Point Officers (BSPO) Congress will highlight this year’s Population and Development (PopDev) Week celebration.

Now on its 23rd year, the congress will be held tomorrow at the Capiz Gym here.

This year, the assembly will give tribute to the Provincial Population Office’s (PPO) network in the communities.

“About 846 BSPOs will receive a P1,000 cash incentive from the provincial government,” said Provincial Population Officer Yolanda Francisco.

Twenty-five BSPO retirees will receive P2,000, while six BSPOs who have served at least 25 years as PPO volunteer extension workers will get the Loyalty Award and P1,000 cash assistance, she said.

BSPO was organized in 1978 to serve as PPO’s extension arm to help widen awareness and deeper appreciation among Capiceños on the local government’s family planning and reproductive health services.

Commission on Population’s Deputy Executive Director Rosalinda Marcelino and Regional Director Harold Marshall, and provincial government officials will grace the congress.

The daylong assembly will include a caroling contest, a parade of indigenous costumes, and raffles and games, among others.

In view of the celebration from Nov. 23 to 29, PPO field workers will hold symposiums on responsible parenthood, adolescent health, human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immune deficiency syndrome reduction, and fighting illegal drugs.

This year’s PopDev Week has the theme, “Bigyang Halaga and Bawat Pinoy sa Pag-unlad Ngayon at Bukas (Making Every Filipino Matter in Sustainable Development).” (PIA/PN)
