THE DEPARTMENT of Tourism (DOT)-6 is optimistic that the opening of Tigerair Philippines’ Manila- Roxas City flight on October 23 will boost the tourism industry not only of Capiz but also of Western Visayas.

According to DOT-6, the direct flight from the country’s capital to the Seafood Capital of the Philippines is another milestone for Region 6.

To celebrate the maiden flight, the DOT-6 and the Tigerair Philippines will have a fanfare activity in the arrival area of the Roxas City Airport to welcome the passengers from Manila and to send off the passengers from Roxas City.

Two Manila-Roxas City-Manila flights are scheduled daily.

Atty. Helen Catalbas, DOT-6 regional director, said “the new direct flights from Manila to Roxas City and vice versa are good indication that Roxas City, the whole province of Capiz and the rest of Western Visayas are must-experience tourism destinations”.

This milestone in the aviation industry only confirms that tourism in the region spreads throughout the country. These new flights are one of the airline commitments to boost Western Visayas tourism in line with the government's tourism agenda,” she added.

She said that Region 6 can now be considered one of the frontrunners in the Philippine tourism sector because of improved connectivity through the five airports in the region, namely: Iloilo International Airport, Bacolod-Silay Airport, Kalibo International Airport, Caticlan Airport (Godofredo P. Ramos Airport), and Roxas City Airport.

More Filipinos and foreign tourists now have many options to travel anywhere in the country especially here in the region to see and experience what we have to offer,” Catalbas said.

She encouraged the public to have fun and exciting experience not only in Roxas City but also in other provinces in the region - Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, Negros Occidental, and the highly urbanized cities of Bacolod and Iloilo.
