Capizeños await more relief aid

ROXAS City – Residents of Capiz province called for more aid in the aftermath of typhoon Yolanda which destroyed their properties and lives.

Violeta Silva, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer in Capiz said they are still accepting assistance to support typhoon victims.

In fact, the provincial government of Capiz through the PSWD Office already delivered relief goods consisting of rice, sardines, noodles and coffee to the municipalities in Capiz. Special operations are also bringing relief assistance to remote and island barangays,” Silva added.

The PSWDO already distributed relief assistance to the 16 towns of Capiz including Roxas City.

Jose O. Villanueva, provincial administrator and concurrent chief provincial legal counsel, said the assistance from the provincial government of Capiz is not enough for the needs of the typhoon victims.”

Villanueva revealed that Capiz province already received local and foreign assistance from various countries and international organizations including the Lung Center of the Philippines for the construction of multi-drug resistant center; Doctors without Borders Switzerland for the water sanitation and medical mission; Save the Children – United Kingdom for the surgical mission; European Union for the provincial assessment; Zuellig Foundation medical mission and equipment; UNICEF for the water sanitation, child health, emergency drugs, water tanks with purifier, health kit (1 health kit good for 10,000 population x 3 months); Rotary Club International for the assessment; and Action Contre la Faim (ACF) for the water sanitation, hygiene nutrition.

Other countries and organizations that pledged their volunteerism and assistance are International Organization for Migration, World Food Organization, Canada DFAT/Armed Forces, Medecins Sans Frontieres Swiss, Red Cross, Japan Heart Organization, World Vision, Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affair (UNOCHA), United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination (UNDAC), GOAL, Child Fund, Welt Hunger Hilfe, Philippine Rural Health Reconstruction Movement, United Nation Development Programme (UNDP), World Health Organization (WHO), UN Department of Safety and Security; Action Asia, UN Habitat NETHOPE Action Aid International, Humanity First, and UNFAO – Food and Agriculture Organizations of the United Nations.

Villanueva said any financial assistance from abroad can be sent to the Capiz Provincial Government Trust Fund, Land Bank of the Philippines account number 0472-1084-33.
