ROXAS City – Health officials in the Visayas are in Capiz to discuss how to enhance the universal health care program of the government.
Capiz Department of Health Representative Dr. Elmer Bucayan said the three-day meeting of undersecretaries, assistant secretaries, regional directors and chiefs of retained Department of Health (DOH) hospitals from Regions 6, 7 and 8 started on Tuesday, October 1.
The meeting is being led by Visayas Cluster head Health Assistant Secretary Pauline Jean Rosell-Ubial.
Also present in the meeting are health officials, regional directors and representatives from the partner agencies such as PhilHealth, Department of Social Welfare and Development and Department of Public Works and Highways.
Bucayan said Health Secretary Enrique Ona is expected to arrive today to attend the said meeting. Ona will also inspect the various DOH-funded facilities including the new Out-Patient Department of the Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital in Lanot here, Rural Health Units (RHUs) of Panitan and President Roxas towns and Balian District Hospital.
The health leaders will discuss in the meeting the updates on the government’s Kalusugan Pangkalahatan program, particularly the Health Facility Enhancement Program, Financial Risk Protection and Millennium Development Goals, the Engagement Mechanism for Universal Health Care and Scaling-up Integrated Neglected Tropical Disease Control in the Visayas.
Discussions on Hospital Management Reforms, DOH standards on health facilities such as RHUs, barangay health stations and district and provincial hospitals, family planning strategy of the Center for Health Development XI and presentation of best practices supporting the Kalahatang Pangkalusugan goals will also be given focus, he said.
Bucayan likewise said that hospitals’ accomplishments, particularly of the Vicente Sotto Memorial Hospital in Region 7, Western Visayas Sanitarium in Region 6 and Schistosomiasis Research and Control Hospital in Region 8 will be presented by their respective chiefs of hospital.
