ROXAS City — The supply of rice in Capiz remains sufficient, the National Food Authority assured.
As of August 15, the province has 144,390 bags of rice, and these are enough for the next 27.24 days, based on the 5,500-bag daily rice requirement, said Rose Andalecio, information officer of National Food Authority (NFA) Capiz.
Of the total bags, 38,540 were with retailers, wholesalers and warehousemen; 22,070 in the NFA; and 83,780 bags in households, Andalecio said.
From January to July this year, NFA–Capiz has distributed 24,801 bags of rice, higher than its target of 23,500 bags for the period, she said.
Meanwhile, it has procured 9,056 bags. The NFA hoped the farmers will sell more by the start of the harvest season next month.
NFA–Capiz officer-in-charge Erna Abello earlier said Capiceños need not worry about the rice supply in the province.
Abello said the price of commercial rice may increase, but the NFA was flooding the markets with its supply to stabilize the situation.
She assured that the price of rice will be back to normal once the harvest season starts in September.
Likewise, Abello called on the public to be vigilant against unscrupulous rice traders who mix local rice with NFA rice and sell them at a high price. (PIA–Capiz/PN)
