ROXAS City – There are no recorded cases yet of foot and mouth disease and bird flu or Avian Influenza in Capiz this year.

Capiz remained free from Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) and Bird Flu or Avian Influenza this 2013,” said Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Leonil Abordo.

Abordo attributed the absence of FMD and bird flu in the province to its intensive education campaign, training and meat inspect as well as intensive disease surveillance and massive vaccination conducted in different towns in Capiz.

Conducting information and education campaign, training, meat inspection in the province has a big part to ensure that Capiz remains Free from FMD and Bird Flu,” he added.

FMD is a highly infectious disease that spreads rapidly among farm animals like pigs, cattle, sheep, goats and deer due to severe outbreak some may die and can also possibly infect human health if taken for granted.

Animals infected with FMD exhibit profuse salivation that it runs from their mouths, blisters, and there is a drop in their food consumption.

On the other hand, bird flu hits the respiratory, digestive, and nervous systems of chicken, duck, pigeons, and other species of birds that that can cause harm to human health that may eventually lead to death. (CPPC/Rubi Ann B. Repil)
