The Cignal HD Spikers completed a reverse sweep against the PLDT High Speed Hitters, 17-25, 20-25, 27-25, 25-22, 15-5 to claim the bronze in the battle for third of the PVL Invitational Conference at the Mall of Asia Arena on Sunday.
PLDT claimed the first two sets and the early parts of Set 3 until Cignal managed to erase their 13-4 deficit and tied the set at 20. Back-to-back points from PLDT again gave them the lead before Gel Cayuna and Rachel Anne Daquis again tied the game at 22.
A Mika Reyes point erased Cayuna's ace to tie the game, before Daquis put Cignal to 24. Jules Samonte and Chin Basas gave them a 25-24 advantage before Jacqueline Acuña saved a matchpoint. Roselyn Doria scored the next two points to give Cignal its first set win in the game.
Cignal extended their momentum as they led early in the fourth set, before PLDT reclaimed the lead 18-16 late in the set. Cignal regained the advantage, 22-20, before Dell Palomata pushed PLDT to 21. Daquis put Cignal to set point before Glaudine Troncoso sealed the set for Cignal and forced the game to a fifth set.
The HD Spikers continued to roll in the deciding set as they limited PLDT to just five points.
Daquis tallied 16 points for Cignal, while Roselyn Doria and Jerrili Malabanan made 14 and 13 points each. Jheck Dionela had 21 excellent digs, while Gel Cayuna had 20 excellent sets.
Mika Reyes, meanwhile, had 19 points for PLDT, with Dell Palomata and Erika Santos making 17 and 14 points, respectively.
