Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles and Premier Volleyball League newcomer Akari Power Chargers are set to face each other in friendly games in Iloilo City and Bacolod City this September.
According to Gametime Sports founder Rodolfo Go Villaruz, the Blue Eagles and the Power Chargers will first tangle on Sept. 17 in Iloilo City and on Sept. 18 in Bacolod City.
“We are still finalizing the venue of the match but the dates are already set,” Villaruz told Panay News. “This is a great treat to the fans to see their volleyball idols playing in front of them.”
“We chose to invite the Blue Eagles and Akari because their players are popular here in Iloilo City and in Bacolod City and we are happy that they accepted the invite,” he added.
The Blue Eagles of head coach Oliver Almandro is expected to be led by Faith Nisperos, Vanessa Gandler, Sophia Ildefonso, Ilongga Roma Mae Doromal, Alexa Miner and Joan Narit.
Also expected to be unveil in the two-day exhibition matches were the rookie recruits of the Blue Eagles, led by Negrense Beautiliza Lomocso.
The Power Chargers, on the other hand, will have Ilongga Dani Ravena, Negrense Genevieve Casugod, Michelle Cobb, Lycha Ebon and national women’s volleyball team member Trisha Genesis.
Also part of the squad of head coach Jorge Edzon Souza de Brito were sisters Jhoanna and Jaja Maraguinot, Erika Raagas, Rachel Jorvina and Ezra Madrigal.
The match will also be fitting for Akari’s Ravena, Jaja and Raagas as this will be their first time to battle against their alma mater Blue Eagles after playing for them during the UAAP Season 84 women’s volleyball.
