The Premier Volleyball League (PVL) will have another bubble tourney when it stages its Open Conference.
PVL commissioner Tonyboy Liao yesterday said they are set to hold their season-opening tourney at the Aquamarine Recreational Center in Lipa City n Batangas probably around the first week of March.
In fact, they are in the process of inspecting the venue to check the playing court and the accommodation of players, coaches and team officials of all participating teams.
This will be the first time for the PVL to use a bubble format.
Last year, the country’s lone professional women’s volleyball league played inside a biosecure environment in Bacarra town in Ilocos Norte with Chery Tiggo emerging as champion.
“By next week, (PVL president) Ricky Palou will drop by there. They will look for a nearby hotel. Once it’s done, they will talk with the LGU (local government unit),” Liao said.
“For Lipa, we will also seek permission from the IATF (Inter-Agency Task Force), which GAB (Games and Amusement Board) supporting us with. Once we get that, we’ll stay there.”
“The start of the league will be moved because it is so close already. We might open it in the first week of March.”
Previously, the PVL was looking at holding its tournament at Splendido Hotel in Tagaytay City.
But top league officials changed their minds because the surfaced of the practice court at Tagaytay Royale was too hard for the players.
“The flooring in the practice court is too hard to play on when you add the taraflex,” Liao said.
“It’s not suitable for volleyball since they might get injured.”
