Rev. Msgr. Victor Bendico, festival director, disclosed that religious and civic activities have already been lined up for the event set from Dec. 5 to 8 this year.
Bendico said this year’s celebration, themed “Halad Alagad,” speaks of the Virgin Mary, a servant (alagad) and who offered (halad) her life as a Mother of God.
The celebration will kick off with an early morning “pamukaw-pukaw” around the city, opening mass, opening program and flag-raising, drum and lyre exhibition, Halad Capisnon, Capiz product expo, motocross display and exhibition, Daigon, Saot Capisnon, opening of Christmas village, TODA Night, and food fest.
Other activities include Run for Environment, Parade of Festivals, photo exhibit, bully run, RMN Pasundayag, Mutya sang Sinadya sa Halaran, Barangay Night, Prosesyon, vespers mass and candle-lighting, Prosesyon sa Suba, fireworks display, and Marcha dela Immaculada.
A high mass will be held on Dec. 8 in honor of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, the city’s patroness. Other activities include a dog show, Artista sa Sinadya sa Halaran and Pasikat Abilidad.
More than P2.2 million has been appropriated for these activities: P1.1 million from the provincial government and P1.151 million from the city government.
Capisnons hold the festival to celebrate the values of sharing and thanksgiving to God through Mary for the abundance of marine and farm produce, Bendico said.
Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Officer Alphonsus Tesoro, meanwhile, said the festival activities are anchored on the Capisnon character of being good-natured.
Tesoro said the celebration will also showcase Capisnons’ being hospitable, generous and thankful. (PIA/PN)
