ROXAS City — Twenty-four livelihood projects were provided for super typhoon “Yolanda” survivors in Capiz during the first half of the year.

Worth some P10.87 million, the projects were under the Yolanda Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Program (YRRP) funded by the Department of Labor and Employment.

Among them were a community bakery, shielded metal arc welding and production project, communal swine breeding and organic fertilizer production, hog dispersal, and rehabilitation of various infrastructure projects.

A total of 2,141 unemployed citizens, marginalized farmers, informal economy workers, and vulnerable workers were the beneficiaries.
YRRP aims to restore losses or damage in the beneficiaries’ livelihood, as well as reconstruct damaged infrastructures.

The allocation for Capiz was part of the P49 million for livelihood projects in Western Visayas, said Mary Agnes Capigon, chief of DOLE Region 6 Technical Services Support Division.

Western Visayas’ allocation was seen to benefit a total of 8,164 “Yolanda” survivors.

It will finance 147 projects in 37 municipalities greatly affected by the super typhoon.

The amount of allocation for Region 6 represented 19 percent of the entire YRRP budget, DOLE regional director Ponciano M. Ligutom said.

Ligutom is confident that the budget will be fully used. (With a report from PIA-Capiz/PN)
