“Yolanda” was a great challenge that instilled fear among Capiceños, Gov. Victor A. Tanco has said, yet the people have become victorious and survivors who are standing still, united, harmonious and strong.
Yesterday marked the 100th day since “Yolanda” ravaged much of Visayas, including the northern part of Region 6.
Tanco said the 100 days since the onslaught of the storm were 100 days of sustained strength as people and unwavering resiliency and victory as Filipinos.
Capiz, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme, has conducted various activities leading to the 100th day.
A Thanksgiving Mass, officiated by Capiz Archbishop Jose Advincula at the Immaculate Conception Metropolitan Cathedral, was held yesterday.
A photo exhibit that showcases Capiceños’ resilience was launched at a new shopping mall here on February 13, Provincial Administrator Jose Villanueva said.
Today, a flag-raising ceremony will be held simultaneously at the Capiz Provincial Capitol, municipal halls and schools, with the reading of a message from the governor, said Villanueva, overall chairperson of the commemoration.
He said the activities aim to promote resilience, strength and camaraderie among Capiceños, especially in times of calamities.
Tanco acknowledged and appreciated the help and the continuous help of everyone, particularly the provincial government employees, national government agencies, local government units, international governments and nongovernment organizations.
He also thanked private individuals, institutions and agencies, which showed faith and confidence that Capiceños are worthy of help. (PIA-Capiz/PN)
