Capiz Guv orders to freeze, control prices

ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Nov. 12 (PIA6) –Governor Victor Tanco has ordered the automatic price control and price freeze on all basic necessities.

Executive Order No. 010-13, series of 2013 which the governor issued provides for the protection to consumers by establishing prices of basic commodities and prescribes measures against undue increases, hoarding and bringing out of the province such goods in the aftermath of typhoon Yolanda.

In the order, Tanco said that the extent of devastation is of such gravity that the public are presently experiencing difficulties in accessing to the seemingly uncontrollable increases in prices of basic commodities available in the market, including the construction materials, liquefied petroleum gas, gasoline, kerosene, food products and mineral water.

He said that there were also several reports that aside from the uncontrollable price increases and hoarding of basic necessities and prime commodities, nipa shingles and bamboo poles are being transported to neighboring provinces that would result in the possible diminish of the supply in Capiz.

Tanco also directed all persons engaged in the production, manufacture, importation, storage, transport, distribution, sale or other methods of disposition of goods, to comply with the automatic price control and price freeze on all basic necessities as provided under Republic Act 7581.

In particular, the order prohibits the unreasonable limitation of or refusal to dispose, sell or distribute the above-mentioned basic necessities and prime commodities, unjustifiable taking out of basic necessities and prime commodities from the channels of production, trade, commerce and industry.

Likewise, the order prohibits the unjustifiable transport and taking out of palay, nipa shingles, bamboo poles and gasoline outside the province of Capiz, as well as the sale or offering on sale gasoline at a grossly excessive market price.
Governor Tanco directed the Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Agriculture, Department of Health, Department of Environment and Natural Resources to be vigilant in implementing the provisions of law and protect consumers from any violation thereof.

On the other hand, the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines were likewise directed in said Order to conduct check points in all areas of entries and egress in the province.

Last Saturday, November 9, Tanco declared the entire province under the state of calamity after Capiz was greatly devastated by super typhoon Yolanda that claimed the lives and properties of Capicenos. (JCM/JBG/PIA6-Capiz)
