490 farmers complete School-On-Air program

ROXAS City – A total of 490 farmers from 13 town in Capiz graduated from the school-on-the-air (SOA) studies on corn production.

The graduation rite was held at the CAP Auditorium here March 6.

The SOA program of the Department of Agriculture (DA) through the Agriculture Training Institute (ATI) aims to educate farmers on applicable ways of growing crop goods and how to reduce post-harvest losses.

The latest SOA on corn production here led by the Office of the Provincial Agriculture (OPA) began October 21, 2012 until February 17, 2013. It aired via RMN-dyVR Roxas every Sunday where farmers listen to various “farmcasters” who provided insights and inputs on effective corn production.

The graduates came from Jamindan (88), Cuartero (59), Dumalag (47), Maayon (46), Mambusao (40), President Roxas (38), Dao (35), Dumarao and Pilar (29), Tapaz (25), Sapian (22), Panitan (16), and Pontevedra (12).

Some graduates were recognized for their achievements including Angelita Omayao of Sapian, Judilyn Clarito of Pres. Roxas and Lorie Facal of Cuartero. The Best in Notebook award was given to Cecelia Estrella Tierre of President Roxas, Angelita Omayao of Sapian, Lorlyn Cordovero of Cuartero and Jesusa Tenpadero of Mambusao.

Also present during the ceremony were Vice Gov. Esteban Evan Contreras, Agriculture Training Institute - Regional Training Center 6 Director Allan V. Alimodian, RMN-Roxas station manager Elizer Abarra, Provincial Agriculturist Sylvia V. dela Cruz, Assistant Provincial Agriculturist Elizabeth H. Betito, municipal agriculturists and OPA employees.
