ROXAS City – A compact disc (CD) of “Tunog Capiznon” album is now on sale at the Capiz Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office (PTCAO).

The album is comprised of popular Visayan folk songs and original compositions of budding songwriters.

The CD was launched in time with the 118th birthday of Capiceña diva and National Artist for Music Jovita Fuentes last Feb. 15.

To come out with the album, the provincial government and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) conducted a songwriting and composition workshop, said PTCAO head Alphonsus Tesoro.

The event was held at the ground floor of the provincial capitol here and was graced by Capiceño composers and lyricists, local officials, tourism officers and provincial government employees.

The Capiznon songs were harmonized and arranged by excellent musician, world-class composer, conductor and music education teacher Dr. Alfredo S. Buenaventura and include Banwang Pinasahi, Pinalangga ko nga Ginikanan, Mabugnaw nga Hangin, Paghigugma, Banwang Puluy-an, Banwa sang Panit-an, Sa Diin Si Nanay?, and Inilusan sa Mambusao.

Beunaventura, also a winner of several national composition contests, was among the workshop resource persons.

The songs “Ay Kalisud” and “Walay Angay” were performed by Filamer Christian University (FCU) student Judy Mar Alvarez during the activity. (Alex A. Lumaque/TDG)
