THE new building of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Capiz will be named after the late DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo. Robredo was there when the building was inaugurated in April.

ROXAS City — The provincial government will name the new building of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Capiz after the late DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo.

Capiz and some of its towns and this city were recipients of the DILG’s Seal of Good Housekeeping award. The recognition was Robredo’s brainchild.

Robredo was there during the building’s inauguration and blessing in April.

He was also one of the seven Cabinet members who attended the province’s 111th founding anniversary celebration, Gov. Victor A. Tanco told Panay News.

I think it’s fitting and proper that the building be named after him (Robredo),” according to the governor.

Tanco said he will ask the Sangguniang Panlalawigan to approve a resolution to name the building after the deceased DILG secretary.

Robredo — who, with two others, went missing after the private plane carrying them crashed off Masbate on Saturday — was found dead Tuesday morning. He was 54.

We (in the local government units) have lost a champion of good governance and an advocate of transparency, accountability and people’s participation,” the governor said of Robredo’s death.

The old DILG-Capiz building was in front of the Capiz National High School. It was demolished to give way to the construction of the Capiz Government and Business Center.

Now its new two-storey building stands on a 444-square meter property owned by the provincial government in Brgy. Tiza here. Its construction costs P7,314,530.31. /PanayNews
