ROXAS City — It’s official — Dr. Romualdo “Boy” Exmundo Jr. will run for mayor of Tapaz, Capiz in the mid-term elections next year.

Gov. Victor Tanco Sr. declared Exmundo as the official candidate of the Liberal Party (LP) for the said post on Sunday, during his birthday celebration in his house in Brgy. Poblacion, Tapaz.

Present during the declaration were Exmundo’s wife, Teresa, their two children, and supporters.

Others who witnessed the declaration include Vice Gov. Esteban Evan “Nonoy” Contreras, some officials of Tapaz led by Vice Mayor Bob Gardose, and former Capiz 2nd District Provincial Board members Baden Catiller and Ronald Exmundo.

Barangay captains and local leaders of LP in Tapaz and the nearby Jamindan town were also around.

Prior to the declaration, Exmundo was the governor’s guest during the blessing and official turnover of the multipurpose hall in Brgy. San Jose, Tapaz.

He also helped Tanco in the distribution of educational assistance to the provincial government’s scholars in the municipality.

Exmundo had been the mayor of Tapaz for three consecutive terms, having been elected in the 1998, 2001 and 2004 elections.

A doctor of medicine by profession, he was instrumental in bringing health services to the barangays.

In 2007, Tapaz Development and Planning officer Rosemarie Gardose was elected mayor after her husband, former vice mayor Victor Gardose, was gunned down on December 30, 2006 outside the Taft Barangay Hall in the town.

Exmundo is expected to clash against two-termer Gardose, a trusted ally of former 2nd District congressman Fredenil Castro who is seeking to regain his position from his wife, incumbent Cong. Jane Tan-Castro.
