ROXAS City — Cora Dayao-Diaz took her oath as a new Sangguniang Bayan (SB) member in Maayon, Capiz yesterday following the resignation of her husband who has been suffering from diabetes.
Mrs. Diaz, wife of SB member Joel Diaz, took her oath of office before Gov. Victor Tanco at the Governor’s Mansion in Brgy. Lanot here.
With her were her family and Maayon town officials led by Mayor Wilfredo Borres.
Borres said he consulted Maayon barangay captains and town officials before recommending Diaz to the governor.
According to Diaz, she will continue the plans and programs of her husband.
Fifty-four-year-old Diaz, a nurse by profession, has been the dean of the Capiz State University – College of Nursing in Brgy. Bailan, Pontevedra, and the College of St. John – Roxas.
She said she joined public service not to be popular but to take on a different kind of responsibility.
Mr. Diaz earlier told news media reporters here that his ailment is also making him suffer from eyesight problems, prompting him to resign.
Supposedly on his second term, Mr. Diaz is the No. 1 SB member in Maayon. He is a member of the Liberal Party. (Felipe Celino/PN)
