The Department of Trade and Industry is calling on micro, small and medium entrepreneurs (MSMEs) to join this year’s Star Awards.
Capiz DTI Provincial director Ermelinda Pollentes said the Capiz Provincial Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Council is now accepting nominations for the SME Rising Star and the SME Star Elite Awards.
Pollentes said that from each category, there will be three awardees, -- one each for micro, small and medium enterprise per province.
She explained the SME Star programs aims to support and strengthen the capabilities of MSMEs across the country as well as recognize the outstanding enterprises that have shown the most remarkable achievements in growing their businesses to be globally competitive enterprises.
Pollentes said that additional details on the requirements for the said search can be accessed in their office here, adding that the deadline for submission of nominations is on May 31 this year.
Last year, the Capiz Small Coconut Farmers Marketing Cooperative (CASCOFAMCO) was recognized as outstanding small enterprise in Capiz by DTI and the Provincial SMED Council chaired by Danny So Chan.
The recognition was done in time for the province’s celebration of the Small and Medium Enterprise Development (SMED) week.
The CASCOFAMCO, which belongs to the small enterprise category with an investment capital of P3 million to P15 million and the lone entry to said category, was chosen by the Provincial Search Committee under the Rising Star Award.
Pollentes explained that the Star Program is a competency initiative for the SMEs to encourage them to take more efforts and recognize them because of such efforts that keep their enterprise growing.
She stressed that the micro, small and medium enterprises as the backbone of the Philippine economy, recognizing that said small firms have been providing employment to 61.2 percent of the country’s total labor force. (Jemin B. Guillermo JCM/JBG/PIA6-Capiz)
