ROXAS CITY – “Roxas City and Capiz Province can now be ranked between seven and eight in the scale of 1-10 in terms of preparation to cater to the needs and demands of the tourism industry,” said executive director Melanie Arancillo of One Capiz Foundation Inc. (OCFI).
OCFI is a partner of the Capiz Provincial Government, City of Roxas and the 1st Congressional District in the preparations for the celebration of Capiztahan April 13-15, 2012. Capiztahan will highlight the 111th anniversary foundation of Capiz and 64th death anniversary of the late Pres. Manuel A. Roxas.
Arancillo said the Capiztahan is a grand festival which aims to promote the city and the province as a premier tourist destination. “We are now better off in terms of visitor’s influx than three years ago and ranks number 20 in most visited places by a survey of the NSO. Formerly, ranked 59th or 60th in terms of tourist visits. To date, we have more in infrastructures, tourist destinations, and an improved mindset of people,” Arancillo added.
Meanwhile, Capiz PNP Provincial Director, S/Supt. Domingo Cabillan and Roxas City chief of Police, Supt. Salvador Dagoon disclosed that contingency plans are now in place to ensure safety welfare of the public and guests for Capiztahan.
Security measures include deployment of PNP personnel in activity areas, hotels and airport.
Highlights of the festivity will include Regional Agri-Trade Fair, ceremonial lightning of the 100-year-old bridge and plaza lights, jobs fair, Panay River cruise, Farmers’ Day, seafood festival, inauguration of the Capiz Government & Business Center and the DILG building, geyser fountain opening of the Talon Adventure Park, ground breaking of Roxas City circumferential road, blessing of the new 300-bed capacity provincial hospital, Health Centrum, and city transport terminal.
