ROXAS City – The Department of Interior and Local Government turned over patrol jeeps to different municipalities in Capiz Friday.

The turnover was held at the Camp Teodorico C. Apil in Barangay Lanot here. It was part of Oplan Lambat Sibat, which is an anti-criminality campaign of the DILG.

Each patrol jeep is a Mahindra Enforcer, which will help police officers in their police visibility, checkpoint operations, and responding to crimes and emergency situations.

The Mahindra Enforcer is fuel efficient, maneuverable in tight spots, and is able to cross flooded areas.

Newly appointed DILG secretary Mel Senen Sarmiento, the guest of honor and speaker, said he wants more police visibility.
Director General Ricardo Marquez, Philippine National Police chief, also had a similar wish.

Dapat kaunti lang ang pulis sa police station (There should only be a few police officers in the police station),” he said. “Ang imbestigador dapat kakatok sa [pintuan ng] bahay ng complainants (Investigators should knock on the doors of the complainants).”

Present during the turnover were Capiz governor Victor A. Tanco; Senior Superintendent Robert Rodriguez, Capiz police director; Atty. Edwin Enrile, DILG undersecretary for operations; and mayors and chiefs of police of the 16 municipalities or their representatives.

The DILG will distribute 582 more patrol jeeps in other provinces. (RALPH JOHN MIJARES/PN)
