Capiz charms women execs

ROXAS CITY, Capiz – A simple tribute to the women executives of the various province – based national government agencies (NGA) and departments of the provincial government highlighted the opening ceremonies of the Women’s Month Celebration in the province last March 2 at the Provincial Capitol Grounds here.

The accolade included the presentation of women executives, followed by the handing in of flowers to them by their male counterparts in the government service.

Some of the most trusted officials in the Aquino government now are women,” said Capiz Gov. Victor A. Tanco, adding that a lot of government offices in the province are also led by women.

The short program, which followed the Monday’s flag raising rites, also featured the women of Panay Bukidnon, indigenous people from Tapaz town, who wowed the crowd with their chant and Binanog (hawk) Dance.

The group also showcased their products before the onlookers that included international humanitarian responders who are still in the province to help Capiceños fully recover from super typhoon Yolanda.

A demonstration on how women prepare and cook traditional fancy rice - based snacks like bibingka, baye-baye and bitso-bitso was also staged by the Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office thru invited resource chefs to stress the contribution of women as knowledge and cultural bearers in the preservation of native delicacies.

Gender and Development (GAD) Provincial Focal Point Person and Provincial Administrator lawyer Jose O. Villanueva said that equality in women’s participation in policy and decision-making bodies is being emphasized by the provincial government.

We also believe in women leadership, women on top of governance,” he added.

It was learned that the various departments of the provincial government will have their respective activities for the month-long celebration with the theme “Juana, Desisyon Mo ay Mahalaga sa Kinabukasan ng Bawat Isa, Ikaw Na!”. (JSC/AAL-PIA6 Capiz)
