Capiz, Aklan in Fiestas in the City

FESTIVALS in Capiz and Aklan were highlighted in SM City Iloilo’s Fiestas in the City at SM City Event Center, May 21.

Capiz Provincial Tourism Officer Al Tesoro said more than 40 performers from Filamer Christian University, Silak Dance Company and Dagway Sigmaganon showed the pubic that Capiznons are very talented.

Aside from the one hour and 30 minutes of dance and song numbers, the Capiz delegation showcased its prized product – seafoods.

As for the places and events, Capiz showcased Sta. Monica Church where the biggest Catholic Church bells in Asia are located, the Meditation Hill which is promoted for pilgrimage, and natural attractions such as waterfalls, caves, and river cruises in Roxas City.

Meanwhile, the provincial government of Aklan exhibited its festivals, tourist spots, piña clothes, among others.

Aklan Tourism Officer Roselle Ruiz said Aklan also introduced Talibong Festival, the province’s new festival.

"It is one of our attractions which we are known for fibers since time of war. We noticed that youth of today are not aware about the history that is why we made Talibong as a festival", said Ruiz.

The province also presented its Ati-Atihan Festival, the mother of Philippine festivals, through the famous ati-ati tribe. (Stella Marie Aguirre and Orlie Espinosa/The Daily Guardian)
