ROXAS City — The Commission on Population 6 (POPCOM-6) recently turned over to the provincial government a P1-million fund for seminars and other education activities on responsible parenting and family planning.

Along with the province’s P100,000 counterpart, the fund will be used by the Provincial Population Office (PPO) for the Responsible Parenting Movement (RPM) activities starting next month.

POPCOM Director Vicente Molejona turned over the fund to Gov. Victor Tanco.

Tanco and Molejona signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the counterpart that will be included in the PPO’s overall budget.

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan subsequently approved the MOU.

Gennie Mariano, administrative operation-in-charge of PPO, said the fund will be used for expenses in RPM classes and for federating trained RPM couples in the province.

About 3,200 couples will benefit from the program this year, Mariano said.

Participants in RPM classes will include couples who want to learn about natural family planning.
Other topics include role of parents and keeping a good and healthy relationship within the family.

The RPM classes were being annually carried out in the barangays to empower Filipino families and make them aware of their basic responsibilities as parents, and commitments toward their respective families and communities. (Alex A. Lumaque, PIA-6 Capiz/PN)
